The Le Sueur Fire Department is staffed by a group of highly-trained volunteers and available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week by radio communications with the 911 Dispatch Center at the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Department.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to save lives and protect property, in that order. We have a system of mutual aid with surrounding towns for additional assistance, when needed and work closely with the Le Sueur Ambulance Service. We have an enviable record of rapid response times, especially compared to cities without an in-town Fire Department.

The Le Sueur Fire Department was established in 1882. We are owned by the City of Le Sueur and supported with tax dollars by all residents of the service area. Additional funds come from user fees and donations.

Area Served

We serve an area of approximately 100 square miles, with a population of about 2100 households. Included in this area are:
  • City of Le Sueur
  • All or portions of the Townships of
    • Tyrone
    • Ottawa
    • Derrynane
  • All or portions of the Township of Henderson
  • A portion of Lake Prairie Township
Organizationally, the Le Sueur Fire Department is part of the Regional Fire Department, Region 12, which consists of all fire departments in Le Sueur County. All members of the Region 12 group meet regularly to exchange ideas, methods and information and to receive on-going training.

Staff & Equipment
Our Fire Department currently has 24 volunteer members including the Fire Chief. All members are trained equally on everything so everyone is capable and knowledgeable.

All members are on call at all times. An average of 18 volunteers respond to each call. Currently, we average 60 calls per year.

Educational Services
Le Sueur Fire Department Volunteers teach fire prevention to students at the elementary schools during Fire Prevention Month in October. In addition, we participate in Le Sueur's Annual Safety Camp where we educate area youth on fire prevention.

Other Services & Benefits

Our Department also performs smoke alarm testing on an annual basis to all area apartment buildings and co-ops. This service helps ensure that the alarms are in working order and increases the safety of all tenants.

The Fire Department also hosts the Annual Fireman's Dance, held the 2nd weekend in June. In addition, we host an annual appreciation pancake breakfast, held the 1st Sunday in May.

Volunteering With the Department
We are always looking for volunteers. Both men and women are encouraged to become trained firefighters. The training and commitment are significant, but the reward of knowing you are contributing to the very life and health of the community is extremely rewarding.

Also please consider a financial donation to assist the Fire Department. Make checks payable to the Le Sueur Fire Department. Send to City Hall at:
