Roles & Responsibilities
The Le Sueur City Council exercises the legislative power of the City. This group determines matters of policy and approves bills, annual budgets contracts between the City and third parties. In addition, the Council oversees the activities of numerous boards, committees, and commissions that report to the City Council.
The City Council consists of 7 elected members (6 Council Members and Mayor). Each Council member is elected for a 4-year term.
2022 Election
There are four (4) total council seats open for election on the 2022 ballot:
- Three 4-year terms
- One 2-year term

Meetings
City Council meetings are conducted the second and fourth Monday of each month. They are held in the City Hall Council Chambers and begin at 6:30pm. Meetings are streamed live and can be joined remotely by clicking on the media link from the Agenda Center. Past meetings can be viewed on our YouTube channel. Citizens are encouraged to attend meetings and/or watch the meetings to stay informed on issues, ideas, and strategies affecting the City of Le Sueur.
Volunteering

Le Sueur City Council Professional Standards (Adopted February 13, 2017)
The members of the Le Sueur City Council agree that the following behaviors will guide the City Council’s discussions with each other at City Council meetings, with the members of the public, and with staff.
- We agree to practice professionalism by being positive and assuming positive intentions, by being respectful to all, and by being prepared for meetings..
- We agree to follow the approved agenda, that we won’t be distracted by sidebar discussions and that we will take time for recognition and appreciation. We will be active listeners, we encourage everyone’s participation, and will collaborate whenever possible.
- We agree to respect decisions made by the group and that expectations will be clearly stated including who is responsible for follow up. We agree to follow through on commitments made.
