City of Le Sueur Water Department

What We Do:

The Le Sueur Water Utility Department's mission is to provide clean, safe, water to all
the residential, industrial, and commercial sites of the City of Le Sueur. Our process is
to pump water from our wells, treat it to remove the iron and manganese, add chlorine
and flouride, pump it to our three water towers for storage, and make it available to
our residents, industries, and commerce via the City's water main system.

We continually test and monitor the water for quality. Prior to treatment (raw), iron
is .73 mg/liter and manganese is .135 mg/liter. After water is treated (finished), iron
is .06 mg/liter and manganese is .032 mg/liter.

In addition, we maintain the fire hydrant system throughout the City that enables firefighters to access water for their critical firefighting needs.

How We Do it:

Staff & Equipment:
We operate and maintain five wells, three water towers (one 500,000 gallon, one
250,000 gallon, and one 300,000 gallon), the City's fire hydrants, a booster station,
and the network of water mains throughout the City. In addition, we have a line locator
and metal detectors for locating water line valves and curb stops.

We currently flush hydrants annually starting the last week of April, which usually takes about two weeks to complete.

Our staff includes Director Brian Skok, five licensed operators, and a part-time clerk. We also have seasonal part-time employees.

Educational Services:
We are always pleased to help Citizens learn more about water and Le Sueur's water treatment facility and processes. If your group would like to schedule a tour and informational lesson, call Brian Skok at (507)665-9941 to set up an appointment.

Other Services & Benefits:
The Water Utility Department sells bulk water to contractors and landscapers.

If there are any issues with your water meter, contact Nicki Costello (507)665-9941, extension 500 to schedule an appointment to turn the water either on or off.

Lawn Watering Tips:

  1. Water before 10:00 a.m. to minimize evaporation.
  2. Avoid watering when windy.
  3. Lawns that are frequently aerated absorb water better.
  4. Mulch shrubs and other plantings so the soil holds moisture longer.
  5. Drive your car onto the lawn before washing it so rinse water can help water the grass.
