City of Le Sueur - City Council

What We Do:

The Le Sueur City Council exercises the legislative power of the City of Le Sueur and determines all matters of policy. For example, the City Council approves the annual budget for governmental and utility operations, all bills paid by the City, City licenses and permits, and all contracts between the City and third parties. In addition, the City Council oversees the activities of numerous boards and committees that report to the City Council.

Each City Council member is elected for a 4-year term to represent one of the two wards in the City.

City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday's of each month at 7:00 p.m. The meetings are video taped and shown on CATV (channel 7) several times during the two weeks following. Check the schedule on channel 8 for viewing days/times. Citizens are encouraged to attend City Council meetings and/or watch the meetings on CATV to stay informed on issues, ideas and strategies affecting the City of Le Sueur.

The full City Council consists of seven elected members-- 6 Aldermen and a Mayor. Aldermen are paid $220/month and the Mayor is paid $300/month to serve on the City Council. In addition, they are paid $35 for each special meeting held.

The City Attorney, Deputy City Clerk and City Administrator also attend the City Council meetings to provide legal and other advice and information necessary for the Council to conduct its business.
