Types of Projects that require a Building PermitPermits are required to: erect, construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert or demolish any building or structure.
(If you are unsure if the work you would like to do may need a permit please call or e-mail the Building Inspector)
General Building Project / Systems New buildings / structures Additions (bedrooms, bathrooms, family rooms, etc.) Decks, garages, fences, fireplaces, swimming pools, water heaters, etc.) Renovations (garage conversions, finishing the basement, kitchen expansions, re-roofing, siding etc.) If you are not sure please call. Plumbing systems HVAC (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning) systems Electrical systems Note: A Building Permit from the City does not include electrical wiring. A separate request for an Electrical Inspection Form (plus required fees) must be submitted to the Board of Electricity at or before the start of any electrical installation.
