EMT training is given through an EMSRB (Emergency Medical Service Regulatory Board) certified training program. The class is 110 hours in length, usually given two nights per week, four hours per night. The class also includes 16 hours of work in a hospital Emergency Room. Successful completion of this class requires passing a national written and practical examination given by the EMSRB. To remain EMT Certified, a 24-hour refresher class must be taken every two years. Successful completion requires passing a practical exam administered by the training institution with oversight by the EMSRB.
The City of Le Sueur pays for tuition and books of the refresher class. The EMSRB reimburses the City for the cost of the class per person. The student must pass the class before the EMSRB will reimburse. The City in turn gives this money back to the student to help defray any costs they incur while taking the class (mileage, meals, etc.). The initial class (110 hours) will be paid for by the volunteer, to be reimbursed after successful completion of the class. The City training budget, along with some money from our fundraisers, will pay for conferences and workshops that you would like to attend.
On the third Monday of every month, at 7:00 p.m., we meet for our regular business meeting. Following the business meeting, a training session will take place where we can work on different procedures and equipment. Meetings usually last 2-3 hours.
