Ambulance Services Department

What We Do:

The Le Sueur Volunteer Ambulance Association (Ambulance Service) was established on August 10, 1970. At the same time, the Le Sueur Ambulance Commission was formed. The Commission is comprised of a representative from every Township that is served by the Ambulance Service, as well as a representative from the City of Le Sueur and Henderson.

We are owned by the City of Le Sueur and supported with tax dollars by all residents of the service area. However, additional funds come from donations and user fees. (Click here to view Funding & Structure)

Our Ambulance Service serves an area of approximately 200 square miles, with a population of about 2600 households. Included in this area are the Cities of Le Sueur and Henderson, all or portions of the Townships of Sharon, Tyrone, Ottawa and Derrynane in Le Sueur County; all or portions of the Townships of Henderson, Jessenland and Kelso in Sibley County; and a portion of Lake Prairie Township in Nicollet County.

We are staffed by volunteers and are available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week by radio communications with the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center at the Le Sueur County Sheriff's Department. We have an enviable record of rapid response times, especially compared to cities without an in-town Ambulance Service.

The Le Sueur Ambulance Service is licensed by the Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board (EMSRB) as a Basic Life Support service (BLS). The EMSRB regulates the training and equipment used on any particular emergency call. Without the generous donations of the citizens and businesses of the Le Sueur and Henderson communities (and surrounding area) EMS would suffer immensely. As it is, we are able to give all residents superior pre-hospital medical attention and do so with the knowledge that we have the best training and equipment available to us procured by monies donated by you, generous people and organizations of our communities.

How We Do it:

Staff & Equipment:
Our Ambulance Service generally operates with 25-30 volunteer members. All members of our association are EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) trained. (Click here to view Training Information)

Volunteers are assigned to one of four teams and scheduled to run according to their availability. Each team is responsible for coverage one week per month. There are five people on call at all times. (Three people staff the main ambulance ("first rig out") and two people staff the back-up ambulance ("second rig out").

Currently, we average 390 calls per year.

Educational Services:
The Ambulance Service provides public education in emergency medical care through first aid and CPR classes, and appearances promoting the Ambulance Service in general.

Other Services & Benefits:
We also provide:
  1. Free community blood pressure clinics at various times throughout the year.
  2. Emergency medical care on a standby basis at major community events (youth hockey tournaments, football games, Giant Celebration, Pioneer Power, etc.)
  3. The annual benefit dance is our major fundraiser.

How You Can Help:

There are two ways you can help:
  1. Consider becoming a Trained Volunteer. It's good for the community and can give great satisfaction, knowing you can help save lives.
  2. Consider a financial donation to the Le Sueur Ambulance Service. Make checks payable to: Le Sueur Ambulance Service. Send to: Le Sueur Ambulance Association, 203 South Second Street, Le Sueur, MN 56058
